By default Windows Vista records and indexes information on all the files on your computer in order to speed up searching process when you need it. If you don’t care about quick searches, this can be disabled to improved general speed of your system.
Below is a step by step guide on how to disable Windows Search Indexing.
Step 1
Go to Start and click Run…(see image below)

Step 2
Once the Run dialog box appears, type services.msc and click ok. (see image below)

Step 3
Find “Windows Search” in the list of services, and double-click on it to open it. (see image below)

Step 4
Change the Startup type to Disabled, and then click the Stop button under Service Status to stop the service. (see image below)

Finally. Click Apply and hit Ok. That’s it. Your computer should be a little faster now. That’s a simple way to improve windows vista performance by disabling Windows Search Indexing.
I hope you find it helpful.

Thanks for a useful tip.
I run Vista Home edition and I found the Run command in the Accessories program folder not on the main menu, but I’ve followed the rest of the instructions and look forward to a slightly less slow operating system.
Thanks again.

Hi maue, your name is quite familiar to my ears. Where do you live?
Thing to note in asking link backs. You should put the url of the site you’re asking for first. Then after it email him/her asking if he/she wants to link back to you. Not the other way around. Just a thought though, i have tested it.
By the way thanks for the compliment. Cheers!
